Okay so youre looking into trading in that old bucket of bolts and upgrading to a later or even a brand new model! Youve done your homework. You have your Kelly Blue Book right there at your side. Youre prepared to fend off the dealers ups. You know what you can afford and, more importantly, what you should pay for your next car.

Oops! Forgot all about insurance. Didnt even factor that in. Now what?

Hmmm do I obtain minimum coverage?.. full coverage??... uninsured motorists underinsured motorists???... and whats it all going to cost me?

Well, lets see! You know your personal driving record will affect your premium. Have you had an accident? How long ago was it? Was it your fault? Were you cited? Do you have speeding tickets? How about any other moving violations?

How will your vehicle pre-choice fare in the insurance premium wars? Yes, the car you purchase will definitely influence the premium you pay.

With that being considered, it should motivate you to obtain a copy of your credit report. You get one free per year for each of the major credit reporting agencies. While youre at it, it may be a good idea to also obtain your credit score.

These days buying anything that requires obtaining credit must meet the qualification criteria litany. That litany is forever changing.

There are two major purchases one makes in life two big ticket items. One is actually considered more than an asset its considered an investment. That is your home. The other will never be worth more tomorrow than it is today (with few exceptions). And thats the family car. Is the total expense youre about to incur commensurate with the value of that which youre considering buying? Think first! So many make the mistake of neglecting the total cost of car shopping and buying. Dont be one of them.

There are a myriad of insurance choices out there, many of which actually offer competitive rates, speedy claim processing and terrific customer service. My advice: shop before you shop. The Ford Motor Co. could raise a remarkable $9 billion out of its remaining luxury brands. The luxury brands that make up the Premium Automotive Group include Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo Cars. However, analysts Merrill Lynch and John Murphy said that the move of selling the luxury brands is pretty unlikely in the short term.

On Monday, Ford announced that it had settled a deal to sell its British sports car maker - Aston Martin - for $925 million to a coalition including racing entrepreneur David Richards, a pair of Kuwait-based investment companies, and banker John Sinders. The company also reiterated that it had no plans to sell its other luxury brands, although speculation has persisted that such a move could come if the automaker's restructuring runs into difficulties. Ford does not yet disclose the results for its luxury brands. However, taken together as part of the Premium Automotive Group, the latter has reported a $327 million loss last year.

The high multiple awarded to Aston indicates that other PAG brands may be valuable sources of liquidity for Ford, although the company's repeated commentary indicates they are not for sale, Merrill's Murphy said in a note for clients. He added, However, given the potential need for liquidity in the next few years all options may be on the table in the future, especially if (Ford's restructuring) is not materially accelerated or falters.

Murphy estimated that the combined sale of Jaguar and Land Rover would be valued from $1.3 to $1.5 billion. Moreover, he added that a sale of Volvo would raise about $8 billion. Murphy said that a sale of Jaguar would be most likely of the alternatives given the recent difficulties for the luxury brand. However, he noted that it would have to be bundled with Land Rover in order to make it more attractive to potential bidders.

June 15th this year would be the day when the Boy Scouts of Americas Cascade Pacific Council would be honoring the Ford Motor Company. The company would be given by the mentioned council as the Motorsports Company of the Year. Such an event would take place during the councils 17th annual Motorsports Breakfast which would be held in Portland, Oregon. In fact, this breakfast is actually done as part of the activities and events of the Grand Prix of Portland which is an annual stop of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.

It was Ron Bennett who presented and gave the Motorsports Company of the Year award to the Ford Motor Company. Ron Bennett is one of the members of the Motorsports Breakfast Steering Committee. While honoring the company, he declares, There are many similarities between the Ford Motor Company and the Boy Scouts. The perfect example is the Pinewood Derby. Ford Motor Co. has earlier unveiled its all-new lineup F-Series Super Duty truck lineup which includes 2008 F-450. The latest lineup will be couple with the biggest pickup production ever made by the automaker.

Early next year, Ford's redesigned version of huge pickup vehicles will be having their debut. To add extra charisma to Ford Super Duty trucks, the automaker has added towing capacity, refined suspension, innovative tailgate, 6.4-liter diesel engine and other exceptional features.

Some analysts expressed their impression about the debut of the latest Ford trucks. Erich Merkle, an analyst with IRN Inc. noted, The Super Duty is incredibly important for Ford because, not only does it represent some pretty serious volume for them, (but) it's also quite profitable. Of course, these days, every launch is critical for Ford.

On one side, some analysts have noted their concerns regarding the risk of economic environment for selling commercial trucks. Others are also saying that Ford is only left with little choices so the automaker opted to upgrade Super Duty trucks to bring back its footing in the market.

Ford Super Duty has outsold other heavy-duty trucks. From the year 2000 to 2005, Ford has sold about 750,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks. Further, the sales of Super Duty accounts for 40 percent of the overall F-Series sales.

Pete Reyes, chief engineer of the Super Duty line said, The biggest challenge with the 450 was making it a legitimate pickup. The challenge with a pickup is providing excellent ride, excellent handling and excellent stability -- both empty and fully loaded. It's tough luxury.

General Motors, Ford's rival, is also releasing new models of heavy-duty pickup trucks. Hence, to make a good competition, Ford is releasing its mighty F-450. It can be recalled that Ford F-350 Super Duty pickup parts have already established its standing. As a fact, F-350 was given a best-in-class payload and weight ratings. Big options are now coming down the way for Ford. These options may either create an air of new life to the automaker or be liable for its second death in the automotive world.

After its dwindling sales in the past few quarters, Ford is having a hard time to cope up with the losses. Losses seem to be mounting and the instant solution of the automaker is to design a work plan to pull it upwards. This plan is called the Way Forward. Said plan called for the closure of 14 plants and 30,000 job cuts by year 2012.

However, experts are saying that there are other issues that the automaker must respond to. These issues include the determination of whether its ailing brands like Lincoln Mercury and Jaguar should sell or close. Another concern is the exodus of Fords top executives. Lastly, Ford must also concentrate on its bread-and-butter vehicles like the F-Series pickup truck. Ford parts used in said vehicles are now being matched by Chevy in its Silverado version of pickup truck.

Rebecca Lindland, an automotive analyst at consultancy Global Insight said, Ford is good at cutting costs, but its not very good at selling product, and thats what brings in the money. The company needs to get people into their showrooms. The baby boomers are the ones who rode Nissan, Toyota and Honda to where they are today, and there are lots of them who have never darkened the door of a domestic automakers showroom. That is why we dont anticipate many big changes for the domestic automakers like Ford for decades. Baby boomers are in their peak buying years.

One of the things we are so concerned about at Ford is the design direction. Where is it going, and who is leading the charge? What is a Ford car? The company needs to get some kind of theme, or personality. Chrysler was able to do it with the 300 and Ford had it with the Mustang and the F-Series, but they have stumbled badly since then, and people dont know what a Ford car stands for, Lindland further added.

On one hand, Daniel Gorrell, vice president at research and consulting firm Strategic Vision in San Diego advised that Ford should take drastic changes to help alleviate its standing in the automotive industry. Gorrell said, [Ford is caught up the general malaise of domestic automobile industry. Its under siege [from Asian automakers, and it hasnt really demonstrated an ability to get over its problems. The business environment is very difficult for them now, and their mix of products no longer reflects what consumers are looking for.

Back during the 1950s through the mid 1970s, Detroit automakers produced several cars that were out and out muscle cars. These types of vehicles shared the same characteristics: they were two door coupes with souped up engines, responsive transmissions, an aggressive exterior design, and a sporty interior. High fuel prices and changing tastes eventually limited sales to the point where only a few models were produced beyond that period of time. Today, muscle car mania is back, despite even higher gas prices. Thanks to the Ford Mustang and to a lesser extent to sedan and wagon models from Dodge, there is new interest in a category long given up. The future is bright for the muscle car segment as one more manufacturer, Chevrolet, considers bringing back one of its darlings of yesteryear, the Camaro.

Besides the Ford Mustang there were a whole host of vehicles produced that at one time or another might have been considered a muscle car. In addition to the Mustang, the Ford Fairlane 500 and Ford Torino did duty; the Mercury Montego was another model; Chevrolet produced the Camaro and Corvette; Pontiac the GTO, Firebird, and Tempest; Olds the 442; American Motors had its Javelin; Plymouth had the Cuda, and Dodge produced the Challenger and the Charger. Today, only the Mustang and Corvette survives although the Dodge Charger has returned as a four door muscle car along with its sibling, the hot Dodge Magnum wagon.

Interestedly, it took Fords redoing of the Mustang for the 2005 model year to stir the current muscle car era craze. Styled after Mustangs built in the 1960s, the current Mustang embraces a retro look while incorporating contemporary technology. The result has been that the Mustang currently sells its entire 150,000 model capacity without incentives.

The Mustang has been inspiring DaimlerChrysler to go ahead with a retro cruiser of its own. The Dodge Challenger concept car, appearing at auto shows across the USA, has been a huge hit and Chrysler plans on bringing the V8 hemi powered model back in 2009. In addition, General Motors is considering giving its blessing on the Camaro, another car also making the rounds of the USA auto show circuit.

So, isnt it silly to bring back such gas hogs? Back during the early 1970s, the then current crop of muscle cars averaged only 10-12 miles to the gallon around town and 15 or 16 miles per gallon on the highway. Thanks to computer technology and efficiency, even the Corvette returns a highly respectable 28 miles to the gallon the highway. So, although fuel mileage will certainly be lower than many other models, the new group of muscle cars will still better the previous generation cars with fuel mileage 80% or more above the cars from the 1970s.

Fortunately, we still live in a fairly free country and what the consumer wants, the consumer gets. So, V8 powered muscle cars mated to 6 speed manu-matic transmissions, with sport handling, bucket seats, and better fuel economy will likely appeal to many. No, they wont be exact duplicates of yesterdays muscle cars, but they will provide the nostalgia and power that motorists seek. I cant wait!

After the big success of the Volkswagen Beetle in the 1960s, the German automaker has resurrected the idea of an on-and off-road car and christened it the Type 181 Thing. The thing was inspired by the World War II Type 82 Kbelwagen and was updated using the Beetle baseline engine and running gear but this time with a beefier Transporter/Microbus suspension.

Also along the lines of the Kbelwagen was its Dumpsteresque yet practical styling. Its simple doors and standard soft top is easy to remove while its windshield can be folded flat. The rear-engine, rear-wheel drive car was rugged and well suited for worst conditioned roads.

The Thing was first built in 1969 and was offered in the US until 1973. It is powered by a standard Beetle 1584-cc air-cooled flat four-cylinder engine with 46 chirping horsepower, and coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. Its first year in the US, the Thing was offered in Blizzard White, Sunshine Yellows and Pumpkin Orange.

By the year 1974, the Thing got a slight boost in power from 46bhp to 55 bhp. Other improvements are notable from its side scoops instead of flush slotted vents in the rear quarter panels. The most desired trim package was called the Acapulco, and featured a bikini top and blue-and-white striped vinyl seats. The option list includes a fiberglass hard top with solid door windows, luggage racks, air conditioning and a padded roll cage. US sales were discontinued after 1974, while sales in Mexico continued until 1978.

The Thing has a small but faithful legion of followers. One problem encountered with the Thing is in terms of its Panels. Its uni-body seems to be the most difficult part to track down since rustkbels are rare. Likewise, poor insulation which led to snow-country interior temperatures reminiscent of the Shackleton expedition's igloos, kept many of them off salty winter roads.

As a gauge of the lower end of the market, a non-running #4 1974 Thing with hard top but no title was recently sold at a Midwest estate auction for $1,600. The pricing of the Thing may increase in the future but not that high. Regardless, in an era of $25,000 Fiat Jollys, the Thing is still one of the best and economical ways of cruising the beach.

When Ford purchased Jaguar Cars Ltd in 1989, the Jaguar brand had for some years been tarnished with a reputation for poor build quality. There can be no doubt that the financial investment and quality control that Ford brought with it saved the Jaguar marque from an untimely end. However, Ford has been unable to make a financial success of Jaguar -- did Ford misjudge the Jaguar marque and its past success?

Jaguar's past

From its humble beginnings as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, and for much of Jaguar's subsequent history, William Lyons, the company's co-founder, had a fundamental approach to his cars: to produce distinctive, high quality automobiles but at as low a cost as possible. The first of these, the Austin Seven Swallow, was simply a rebodied version of the humble Austin Seven because, Lyons believed, ... that it would also appeal to a lot of people if it had a more luxurious and attractive body.

In later years, the success of iconic Jaguars such as the XKs and E-Types were in part due to their distinct blend of forward-looking style and sophisticated use of technology. The power and quality of the XK engines used for the Jaguar XK120, and subsequent cars for many years, was far in advance of other comparable engines of the period. Similarly the much improved ride quality and road holding abilities of these cars had left their counterparts behind.

It was much the same with the Jaguar E-Type, a sensation when it was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. Here was a race-bred, visually sensational, 150mph sports car at just half the price of its nearest rival, the Aston Martin DB4.

The Jaguar XKs, and the C and D-Types which evolved from them, also enjoyed much success in sports car racing, dominating the Le Mans 24 Hour race in the 1950s and contributing to the success of the marque. In the 1980s Jaguar again returned to Le Mans with the Group C XJRs, winning in 1988 and 1990.

Ford's tenureship of the Jaguar brand

Since the mid 1990s, Ford has launched several new Jaguars, including the XJ8/XJR, S-Type, X-Type and XK8/R. The common theme amongst these models is that they have all taken their styling cues from historical Jaguars such as the D and E-Types of the '50s and '60s for the XK8, and the XJ6s and XJ12s of the '70s and '80s for the saloons.

One can certainly appreciate Ford's reasoning behind the decision to ape the styles that proved so successful for Jaguar in the past, but by doing so they appear to have missed the point of what made those cars successful in the first place: that the styles then were looking forward rather than backwards.

In an attempt to recoup the substantial financial investment in Jaguar, and in keeping with its own history, Ford created the X-Type as a low-budget Jaguar that was intended to appeal to the fleet market and those for whom the top-end models were too expensive. Yet this model never sold in the volumes that Ford hoped for outside of the UK. For many potential purchasers, the model shared too much in common with Ford's own Mondeo to be distinctively 'Jaguar', and for younger owners the car bore too much resemblance to the Jaguar XJ -- a model traditionally driven by older owners. It was also a highly competitive market and the X-Type was in direct competition with BMW, Mercedes and, at the time, the similarly styled Rover 75.

Yet on occasions Ford have created much interest amongst motoring journalists and enthusiasts with a number of concept cars. The XK180, and similarly styled F-Type, were greatly praised and could, potentially, have tapped into the emerging market for roadsters alongside the Porsche Boxter and Mercedes-Benz SLK, yet neither were translated into production models.

Sporting pretensions

With Jaguar's past successes in motor sport having added much to the brand, Ford attempted to recreate this with its entry into Formula 1 racing. Formula 1, however, with its vast budgets and tendency to be dominated by one or two top teams was an ambitious leap and the Jaguar team never managed to challenge for world championship points on a consistent basis.

In hindsight it would, perhaps, have been better to concentrate efforts in other motorsport categories. Indeed, the XKRs run in the Trans-Am series proved very successful, securing four manufacturers' titles. Had the F1 budget been spread across other classes, Jaguar's presence in world motorsport may have been a different story.

Too much too late

With the launch of the much praised next-generation XK/R in 2006, and the XF due out in late 2007 to replace the S-Type, Jaguar's model line-up does finally appear to be looking forwards both in terms of style and technology -- a substantial reason for the success of the brand throughout Jaguar's history But with Ford having experienced financially troubled times over the last few years, the sale of Jaguar would inject much needed capital back into Ford, just as the Jaguar marque looks set to turn the corner and experience a resurgence in popularity.

Jaguar's future

To secure its future and to continue as one of history's most evocative automotive marques, Jaguar needs a parent company that will allow its designers to continue with the innovation and dynamism shown in the current XK range and upcoming XF. For much of its history, the Jaguar marque has been ahead of the field with design and performance -- its new owners, however they may be, would do well to bear that in mind.

Ford Motor Co. announced earlier that it will be purchasing as much as $3 billion worth of China-made components to boost its aim to cut production costs. The purchase transaction is anticipated to take place this year.

Ford will buy between $2.5 billion and $3 billion in auto parts in China, said William Ford Jr., chairman of the Dearborn, Michigan-based carmaker. Bill Ford explained, We are only scratching the surface in China. China is very key to our global sourcing strategy particularly as the quality of the local suppliers' ramps up.

Analysts in the auto industry explained that the reason behind the purchase is the automaker's need for cheaper auto parts to satisfy its goal to cut costs up to $6 billion by 2010. It can be recalled that Ford experienced a slumped sales in the United States. Said plight resulted to third quarter loss amounting to $5.8 billion.

Among the 3 largest American automakers, Ford was the last to produce vehicles in China. Production took place in Chongqing city in the year 2003. Ford Fiesta parts and those of Mondeo where assembled in the territory. In that specific endeavor, the automaker invested $1.5 billion.

In 2004, Ford agreed to put up a third factory in Nanjing city, China to assemble its 8 new models. The building of the plant is done in cooperation with Mazda Motor Corp, its affiliate. That particular investment proved to be beneficial because Ford China sales more than doubled in the first three quarters of 2006. The automaker sold 114,685 vehicles via direct sales. It was approximately 2.2 percent of the 5.28 million vehicles sold in the particular period in China.

Ford shares the biggest slice of China sales with American auto giants - General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group. General motors divulged that its 3 quarters China sales increased by 37 percent to 645,680 units. DaimlerChrysler AG, on one hand, reported perfected sale of 16,400 Mercedes-Benz luxury cars in China and Hong Kong within same period.

Experts are saying that the recovery plan of Ford has substantially contributed to the surged in sales. Nonetheless, some of the analysts noted that the automaker is moving too slow while its rivals are taking swift yet precise steps.

Richard, also an online purchaser, said This is the first new Ford I purchased in 29 years. I traded in a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In fact the last five new SUVs I purchased were Jeep Grand Cherokees. After two years of driving the 2005 Jeep I had enough of the poor service and lack of concern by Jeep.

He added, I was hesitant to purchase and did quite a bit of research before doing so and glad I did. The Escape Hybrid is fun to drive, has better visibility, and the gas mileage is twice that of the Jeep! How impressive could Escape get?
Clay from Vallejo, Calif. said, Hats off to the 08 Escape Hybrid! I had an 06 Escape Hybrid 4WD (not loaded) and for $1,500 more I now have a loaded 08 Escape Hybrid 4WD. The reason is starting with the 07 hybrids, Ford lowered the price. The exterior has a new aggressive look and even makes it appear larger. The new interior design is a plus. I noticed that the cabin is quieter and feels more solid on the road than my 06. The new EPA sticker shows a more real world estimate because right off I was doing 29 mpg and over on the first tank. It comes standard with dual climate, which is great because my wife is always colder, and an auxiliary jack for the iPod/MP3 addicts, two 12V power points for front and rear users, auto on/off headlamps and tire pressure sensors. The center stack has totally improved: larger touch screen GPS, six CD/MP3 in-dash instead of the changer under the passenger seat, and a high mount info screen (time, date, exterior and interior temperature, bearing).

The console is VERY sly! It can hide a 14-inch laptop and power it as well, thanks to the 110V plug right there in the front of the shifter. The center console attachments can be configured in a number of ways for convenience. Its one of those things you have to see for yourself! This hybrid is one to consider over the pricier Toyota and Lexus, Clay stressed.

Dramatic changes
We have a XLT 4WD and what a dramatic difference from the older versions...especially the interior...thank goodness. This new version is so much better in my opinion. Dramatically quieter and more comfortable and the prices are actually lower than last years model. We have some very steep hills in our area with gravel roads. The all wheel drive handles them with ease without any loss of traction. The transmission does all the braking on the way downhill with little effort, saving my brakes the wear and tear. Yahoo! Autos posted Yogidogs comment. He said, I first test drove the Limited V-6 today and plan to buy one. Initial impression is that the overall look is well sculpted and smartly organized, with a sexy black leather interior. Ride is quiet, although a little rough on bad roads. I dont particularly like a mushy ride, so the feel of the road appeals to me. Seats are comfortable and will serve well on a long ride, as will the Audiophile speaker sound system, tuned to SIRIUS. Quality of interior is immediately noticeable. The only down side is the pebble grain dashboard and need to remove headrests from back seats in order to lay seats flat, although a compartment for storing headrests is provided. Chrome front grille looks a little cheesy. My preference is for a solid color grille. Clean and simple. List of safety features and new extended 60,000 mile warranty is impressive and should coax many buyers that its time to come back to Ford. Bottom line ... it looks good and is fun to drive. Sold.

What about the taxes?
Frank from San Diego said, After buying this SUV, I got all the money back I paid in federal taxes for the entire year. It is the best hybrid on the road and is great for off-roading. I have the four wheel drive model and I use it every weekend. I have 20,000 very trouble free miles on it in only 4 months. This is the best SUV Ford has ever made and there is NO comparison to the Toyota Highlander. This wins hands down! His comment was posted at Yahoo! Autos.

Toyota Motor Corp. Chairman Fujio Cho met with Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally. However, the automaker claimed that it did not discuss the possibility of any alliance with Ford. Tomomi Imai, Toyota's spokesperson said, It was just a get-acquainted meeting. He further added, Toyota's top executives constantly meet with counterparts at other automakers.

Analysts have previously expressed their skepticism about the rumored outright or even substantial merger of the two auto giants. Erich Merkle, IRN analyst said I don't think you're looking at any kind of alliance here. You have to ask yourself what would be in it for Toyota. They're doing pretty well on their own.

Even though several analysts are skeptical about the joint venture or merger, there is still no shortage of issues involving the two. This year is full of extremes for both Ford and Toyota. It can be recalled that Toyota knocked Ford off its perch as the top 2 automaker in America. Also, Toyota also announced that it would be building more than 9.4 million vehicles for 2007. This may sound a threat to General Motor's reign as the largest automaker around the globe. So it seems that at present a huge set of V6 engines are about to be made available sometime in the near future. This new V6 engine could hold in 3.5 liters of fuel. It has also been created so as to be able to produce some 265 units of horsepower. According to some officials from Ford, the new V6 engine has been designed to be flexible. In fact, they are foreseeing that the company could use this engine in various Ford vehicles. If this is so, then it would be like the parts Ford Windstar which could be used in quite a number of Ford cars and vehicles.

$335 million is a huge amount. And this is the exact amount that the Ford Motor Company invested and spent so that the Lima plant would be able to produce the new and flexible V6 engine. Toyota Motor Corp. confirmed that its chairman Fujio Cho met with Ford Motor Co. President and CEO Alan Mulally in Tokyo. However, Toyota denies the report written in Japanese newspaper that it was starting negotiations with the ailing automaker.

Toyota spokesperson Yasue Kato said Cho and Mulally met and exchanged greetings, but she refused to give further details including when and where the talks took place. Kato added that Toyota regularly holds meetings with other automakers when the opportunity presents itself. On one hand, Tom Hoyt, Ford's spokesperson said, We meet regularly with other automakers on a variety of topics of mutual interest. We dont discuss the content of these meetings.

According to Kyodo News agency the meeting of the mentioned auto giants was held at Fords request. The source of the news was an unidentified Toyota official. Kyodo and the Nihon Keizai news also reported that the talks appear to have focused on how the two companies can strengthen cooperation in environmental technology.

Toyota is obviously performing well in the automotive industry. For the last quarter of the year, Toyota earned $3.44 billion while Ford lost $5.8 billion. Toyota, Japan's No.1 automaker is deemed a leader in auto advancements. Toyota Camry OEM parts are incomparable. Toyota parts for Prius are also making a remarkable reputation. The 2006 model year will end the heralded Taurus name and for this writer it is a bittersweet time as Ford retires what once the best selling car in all of America.

When Ford introduced the Taurus along with its cousin the Mercury Sable in the mid 1980s the car represented a radical departure from the standard American car of the day. Fairly large, front wheel drive, and very aerodynamic, the Taurus quickly rose to the pinnacle of the American car sales charts and was the best selling car for several years in a row. A much delayed reskinning did not occur until 1996, some ten years after the Taurus and Sable were first released. The new style, perceived by some to be ugly, quickly cost Ford sales as newer and more modern Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords out gained the line. Slight changes in style incorporated with the 2000 model year took some of the edge off, but by then the Taurus was considered to be too old and outmatched by the competition.

I purchased an all new 1994 Taurus and kept the car for seven years, racking up 117,000 miles before deciding it was time to trade in the car for something newer. I found the ride to be comfortable, the interior room to be expansive, and I enjoyed the overall style of the car. I was also one of the first people to purchase a Taurus in the then new Hunter Green color, an attractive deep green that was admired by many.

When 2001 rolled around, I elected to lease a Saturn L series instead of going with the Taurus. I needed something similar in size with the Taurus and at that time Saturn had a lease deal that could not be beat. In addition, I still wasnt impressed with the Taurus which I felt had been out-engineered by other cars in its class. So, I took home the Saturn and donated my Taurus to the Kidney Foundation.

The 2005 model year represented the final year that Ford would offer the Taurus through dealers; for 2006 the Taurus is only available as a fleet car and it is unchanged from the previous years model. The slow selling Sable was mercifully put to rest one year earlier.

For Ford, concentrating on trucks and SUVs meant neglecting much of their car line up, including the Taurus. Bigger and stronger SUVs, including the Expedition and Excursion, were introduced as Americas tastes continued to shift from passenger cars to SUVs. In addition, the ever popular F Series pick up trucks went through regular style and engineering changes every four years or so as did the Explorer, Fords midsized SUV.

Higher gas prices and changing tastes are once again impacting Fords line up. The beefy Excursion is gone and new cars including the Five Hundred and Fusion are now part of the line up. These two new models represent a fresh change for Ford and a promise that the attention once given to the Taurus would be given to the new models. For that, I am glad.

Diesel engines have received a bad reputation in the United States due to the amount of emissions they give off. One such company is the Ford Motor Company which has introduced their new Power Stroke diesel technology. This new one promises a good performance from the engine while keeping the emission level equal to that of a gasoline engine. The engine will be the workhorse of the new 2008 Ford F-Series Super Duty lineup and it already has received much praise for its fuel efficiency.

The massive 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel engine has an improved performance over the previous diesel engines employed by Ford. The technology also reduces emissions and NVH or noise, vibration, and harshness. The high performance of the engine and its low emission are two things to like about it. But it is also important to keep in mind that this engine also has 25 to 30 percent better fuel economy rating than gasoline engines. In fact, the newer generation of clean diesel engines is taking over the European market and Ford hopes to do the same in North America. Ford hopes to launch the technology successfully since a large number of Super Duty buyers opt for a diesel engine under its hood.

One great thing about the engine is that it exhibits no turbo lag and according to Richard Truett, engineering reporter for Automotive News, I have never felt that performance out of a diesel before. This he stated after going 60 to 65 miles per hour while towing. He further said that he cant find anything to dislike about it (the engine). His rave review of the technology is shared by John Stewart, editorial director of Diesel World Magazine: Its a tremendously quiet engine. It has torque everywhere you look. The technology that they have brought to bear is the latest in the field. When you drive it you think, this thing is a great cruiser. We need to go on a trip with this.

The people at Ford said that the Power Stroke diesel is the companys cleanest and quietest pickup diesel ever. Its particulate emission, which in the past has given it a bad reputation, is reduced to almost the equivalent of gasoline engine emissions. It gives that clean emission while giving out 350 horsepower that would take a high performance disc brake and an EBC brake rotor to efficiently stop the vehicle. The engine also provides 650 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 revs per minute with the help of its two-stage turbocharger. The Power Stroke engine is the first pickup engine in the US to feature the common rail fuel injection system with piezo-electric injectors.

The development of the diesel engine was made possible with the help of Fords European connection. Power Stroke diesel Manager Enio Gomes stated that they have tapped the knowledge of the companys European diesel experts in order to integrate the cutting edge technologies in the new engine especially the fuel injection system stated earlier. Another part that the European diesel engines experts help integrate in the new diesel engine is the particulate filter that significantly reduces the amount of emissions being released by the engine.

Ford is counting on their new diesel technology to propel the company to the top of the diesel engine equipped vehicle market which is expected to increase significantly in the next couple of decades. In fact, they have already revealed their plan of offering a Ford F-150 equipped with a diesel engine which will be another first for the companys light-duty pickup series.

Analysts in the auto industry expect that Fusion will follow the footsteps of Taurus without becoming what it eventually became. It can be recalled that Taurus was considered one of the bread and butter vehicles of Ford. In between 1986 and 1995, you cannot imagine the automaker will hit the market without the presence of Taurus. From 1992 to 1996, the vehicle was the best selling car in the United States.

Wall Street Journal said, GM, Ford, Chrysler and their enablers in the new Congress [Michigan Democrats would have you believe otherwise, but outside of Michigan the U.S. remains a great place to produce vehicles. It added, Consumers have more choices in what to drive and better quality than ever. And prices are competitive. Government intervention in a market this healthy can only increase the chances that it won't stay that way.

Bill Ford CEO of Ford Motor Company is releasing the reigns to a former Boeing Executive in hopes the profits will fly again? But, what will happen at Ford? Of course Alan Mulally the Boeing Exec taking over has in fact dealt with severe crisis and turn around before in high-tech manufacturing and dealt with unions and done a fair job of it, but it was not pretty back then at Boeing and it may not be so pretty for Ford although things are looking up somewhat? Who is Alan Mulally? Well he is some one that even the author of “From Good to Great” the Stanford MBA Professor might approve of. So we shall see if Mr. Mulally can take Ford back up to cruising altitude in short order.

Many are skeptical of the move and Wall Street seems to be alright with it, so we shall see what happens next and if Ford can indeed weather the storm for the next major run as the hybrid generation and E85 Ethanol units hit the roads of American highways soon. Consider all this in 2006.

Replacing the Ford Windstar minivan in 2004, the Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Freestar. This vehicle comes in five trim levels that includes the S, the SE, the Sport, the SEL, and the Limited. The Limited trim level uses chrome on its 16 inch wheels, door handles, and roof rack. The SEL trim level, on the other hand, receives bright and machine 16 inch wheels as well as redesigned front door panels.

Possibly because the Ford Freestar replaced the Ford Windstar in the companys line up of vehicles, this new vehicle holds a very similar appearance to the latter. It sports a body-colored grille, a chrome grille and five spoke aluminum wheels. This vehicle can also seat up to a maximum of seven passengers. The bucket seats in the second row of the vehicle include a fold and tumble feature. General Motors Corp. is heading toward recovery. And Ford Motor Co. is expected to follow after. Though it is apparently exerting efforts, they still lack momentum to save the sputtering automaker.

Ford earlier announced its campaign involving zero-percent financing and $1,000 savings on range of brands. These strategies are aimed at increasing the February sales by 3.4 percent. But February sales turned out to be a frustration. But Mark Fields, the Ford Americas president, is still confident the automaker could still achieve its turnaround goals for the year.

The automaker received more bad marks on its latest internal report card. The report card was shared to fords employees following Fields' weekly Webcast. The report card reflects that the automakers February retail sales in the United States were worse than the company projected they would be a month ago.

The recovery plan require for the company to hold onto just over ten percent of the domestic retail market in February. Last month, it said that was improbable but it contended the company could hold the line at ten percent. Nevertheless, Ford only managed to claim a 9.8 percent share in February, missing the target by about 1,900 units.

The automaker blamed the results on weaker than expected sales of the Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle, Ford Mustang sports car and the F-series pickup. But with the new ad campaigns, executives are confident that sales will return to the right track. The ad campaign challenges consumers to compare Ford products to the product line of rival manufacturers.

Ford spokesman Oscar Suris said the numbers presented to employees only show part of the picture. This is not a comprehensive look at everything affecting the business, Suris said in an interview. There are other areas where we are ahead of schedule. Overall, we are where we expected to be at this point.

According to the report card, 39 percent of those surveyed said they had an excellent view of Ford. That's better than our domestic competitors, Suris said, though he said the company still has a ways to go before catching up with Japanese brands like Toyota. We don't want to stay there. The document also showed that financial weakness at many of Ford's suppliers continues to be a challenge.

During his webcast, Fields said improving brand favorability is a key objective of Ford's recovery plan. Fields also challenged employees to talk up the company's new products with everyone they know, saying word-of-mouth marketing can help change the way people look at Ford.

Ford is motivated to make a moving change this year to alleviate its standing. This change could be triggered by powerful campaigns, auto parts upgrade, and efficient work plan. The heat of the auto competition is getting hotter to test not just the performance of Gibson exhaust but the survival instinct of the automakers.

Fords impetus for change is coming from an unlikely source: a foreign government. According to news sources, Fords Australian operation has received a $1.4 billion grant from Australia to build a production and research facility that will be used to design and build several new models. One of the Australian cars slated to benefit from this move will be the Ford Falcon, a full sized car that will become the basis of the all-new Crown Victoria.

While some have theorized that the new Crown Victoria will be built in Australia and imported to the U.S., this is unlikely to happen. Instead, Ford will expand the Falcons production to at least one U.S. plant, make some technical refinements, and sell the car as a Crown Victoria. It will be targeted to police departments and fleet buyers primarily with some residual sales for personal buyers. In addition, the Crown Victoria will spawn a new Mercury Gran Marquis while a slightly stretched and much more elegant version of the car will become the replacement for the current Lincoln Town Car.

Yes, the Crown Victoria is well past its useful age. Thanks to some help from down under, the 2010 model should be a refreshing change. At least Ford hopes you will think so.

Will Ford Motor Company be forced to dump some of its premium brands such as Austin Martin, Volvo, Land Rover or even Jaguar? Some say it will. Most agree that Volvo probably is not for sale. Land Rover sales are indeed up by 15% with some killer new models. So that leaves both Jaguar and perhaps Austin Martin for sale?

But who is in the market for a car brand like Jaguar as we know that Jaguar is a very strong brand. Perhaps the Chinese might buy it, and then mass-produce them and sell them here. What about the Korean Hyundia? Hyundia is certainly coming up in the world. Some have said that the New Jaguar X-Type with Ford has cheapened brand? But even if that is only partially true Jaguar still has a strong brand customer following.

There are a few Private Equity Firms, which might one, two or perhaps offer Ford to buy them all say some Wall Street Analysts. That might be a tough nut to come up with some 7-10 Billion to buy them all? But why is Ford in the fastlane to get out from under these strong brands, which maybe slightly under performing now?

Well they need the money and unfortunately some of their most popular models such as the larger F-Series pickups are not making it happen for them and usually they sell lots of them; 900,000 last year alone, but the F-Series pickups are not making it this year. Why? Well, some say it is due to the GM larger pickups picking up in sales; better fuel, power, designs. No matter what we might see some brand consolidation at Ford Motor Co. this year. So, consider this in 2006.

Ford Motor Co., maker of top of the line Mercury oxygen sensor, is set to tout its new Taurus as the safest full-size car in America with a new advertising campaign that debuts Monday.

In order to re-establish the once-valuable Taurus nameplate, the Dearborn automaker will launch a nationwide promotion that will use online, television, radio and print ads to target young families and the millions of previous Taurus owners, according to Cisco Codina, Ford's group vice president, North America marketing, sales and service.

Set to hit dealerships this coming summer, the new Taurus -- which is replacing the Ford Five Hundred during the middle of that car's first production cycle will have a big advertising campaign that will launch in stages, first in print and on television on Monday, and in a span of 10 days to online and radio.

But, make no mistake. The new Taurus is not merely a Five Hundred by another name. It will have a new front end and a new powertrain: a 263-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 with a six-speed automatic transmission. Ford has reportedly made more than 500 changes to the vehicle, addressing many of the perceived shortcomings of the Five Hundred. Highlights include new exterior styling, a new powertrain, a new all-wheel-drive system, more standard safety features including standard electronic stability control and structural upgrades to further enhance crash protection.

Ford Sync will also be available, offering new levels of connection, control, simplicity and personalization for electronic devices such as cell phones and MP3 players.

There wouldnt be any mention of the rebirth of Taurus in the ads however. Ford ended production of the legendary nameplate in October when it closed the Atlanta assembly plant. In February, under the leadership of new CEO Alan Mulally, the automaker announced that it would be resurrecting the Taurus name, as well as renaming the Ford Freestyle crossover the Taurus X and the Mercury Montego, the Five Hundred's sister car, the Mercury Sable.

Recent endorsements from J.D. Power and Associates and Consumer Reports, as well as top safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, have boosted the Ford and Taurus campaign.People should expect a sophisticated touch to the campaign, said Barry Engle, general manager of the car company's marketing division.

Mulally said that it is of utmost importance that a leader should put people first and include everyone on the project as well. And to make it possible, Mulally said that communication is needed and is entirely very important for the whole process. The biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it occurs, says Mulally. The fact that you say something and expect them to know what it means; thats arrogant, says the Kansas University alumnus.

Mulally stressed out that there is a need for coworkers to be on the same page. They should be able to work on a single plan with everyone pitching in on the job at hand. Mulally said that when a problem surfaced in the workplace, he wants to be working with people who can find a way to address the situation and solve the problem. He also said that he saw that kind of people at the institution. There is not an institution in the world that has more motivated, more skilled and neater students than the University of Kansas, says Mulally.

During his speech, he recounted his experiences in life as a young man working odd jobs in Lawrence. He said that his career started delivering newspapers. After that, he became a bag boy for Dillons grocery store in the area. He left the job after he was inspired by then President John F. Kennedy to become an astronaut. He was at that time taking up liberal arts but then he switched to aeronautical and astronautical engineering at the University of Kansas. After he switched courses though, he was told that he is not fit to be an astronaut because he is slightly color blind.

After he graduated from the University of Kansas, he was told by a professor at the university to try to get a work at Boeing. The said professor has then recently left Boeing. After that, he was hired at Boeing and after some years joined Ford Motor Company as the new CEO. In connection with him being the current CEO of Ford, he also talked about their companys effort to protect the environment. He talked about several alternative fuels which are aimed to reduce the amount of damage that vehicle emissions are doing to the environment. He also tackled and dissected his thoughts on the problems that are being faced by the auto industry pertaining to the use of alternative fuels.

For example, he cited the use of bio-ethanol, while using ethanol as substitute for gasoline; it will need a lot of raw materials to supply the country with its needed fuel.

That is why Ford, with Mulally at the helm, is developing technologies that will reduce the dependency of the auto industry on petroleum products. Several Ford models with Ford fenders and other Ford auto parts are already offered with a hybrid version to reduce the amount of gasoline that they have to consume.

While there are already environment friendly vehicles out in the market, Mulally thinks that it is not enough. The auto industry only accounts for 15 percent of carbon dioxide emissions, so the whole country needs to work together, says Fords CEO.

The hype continues as Ford announces that more than 930,000 consumers have visited its Edge's page in its website. Moreover, the traffic on site surged by 125 percent since the month of June.

Ford dealers are saying they can't wait to have the Edge. If it's half the car the Ford Fusion is, the Edge will do great, said Russ Milne, of Russ Milne Ford in Mount Clemens, Mich. It's going to draw in a lot of young mothers who don't want to be minivan people and the empty nesters, too.

Analysts are also positive about Edge, When you look at the Edge, you've got this nice, strong, sporty exterior that looks like there is a level of capability in that vehicle. And in the interior, there are a number of nice points, too, said Alex Edwards, the president of Strategic Vision in San Diego.

Aside from Edge, Ford is also counting on its mighty F-Series where F-350 pickup belongs. Ford Motor Company claims that it is unclear whether its cruise control switches are the fault for over 560 reported fires and explosions in Ford vehicles. Many of these fires broke out when the vehicles were parked in family garages, destroying homes and lives. In cases like this the numbers reported are only a fraction of what has actually occurred, but Ford claims to be doing its best to determine the cause of the fires and refuses to declare the cruise control switch at fault. Here are the facts:

More than 16 million Ford vehicles have rolled out of the lots installed with a cruise control switch that is designed not to switch off. This switch remains hot and powered, even when the car is parked. Only a thin metal sheet separates the switch from the brake fluid line, and only a little extra heat can cause the switch to combust, dripping flaming fluid over all the plastic components, resulting in a full-blown hood fire that is very difficult to extinguish. Many owners have reported explosions, both while driving Ford vehicles and after parking them.

In May of 1999, Ford issued a recall on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Town Car models from 1992-1993. A second recall issued in January of 2005 affected 800,000 vehicles including all 2001 F-Series Super Crews and all the year 2000 Expeditions, Navigators, and F-150 Pickups. Even these massive recalls have not solved the problem. As recently as this month reports have come in of vehicle fires in models not covered by the recall. A 1999 Expedition caught fire in a family garage after 3 Ford dealerships refused to replace its cruise control switch. Federal investigators are now looking at 3.7 million Ford trucks and SUVs to determine the extent of the danger. This Federal investigation only covers a quarter of the vehicles that could be affected.

A Ford document obtained by CNN showed that the same or similar switch was installed in a total of 16 million vehicles, including:

Mark VII/VIII from 1994-1998

Taurus/Sable and Taurus SHO 2.3 L 1993-1995

Econoline 1992-2003

F-Series 1993-2003

Windstar 1994-2003

Explorer without IVD 1995-2003

Explorer Sport/Sport Trac 2002-2003

Expedition 1997-2003

Ranger 1995-2003

The NHTSA says that of over 560 complaints of spontaneous, non-collision fires, 253 involved unrecalled models. Some cruise control switches that combust malfunction beforehand, but many owners did not observe a problem until their trucks exploded in the garage and burned down their homes. Because the power flows to the switch when the vehicle is turned off, many of these fires broke out in the middle of the night, hours after anybody touched the Ford trucks.

Ford does not acknowledge any deaths that have occurred as a result of the fires , but Ford Motor Company is also denying the legitimacy of many claims. According to Ford, the explosions and fires in the engines of unrecalled vehicles could be anything, not necessarily the cruise control switch. Ford's assertion is hardly comforting, because these fires have broken out enough times to reflect a solid trend. If all the reports of Ford fires are not related to the cruise control switch, then the numbers reflect a distressing trend of combustible Ford trucks.

This trend could very well be a reality, as this is not the only recent case of Fords spontaneously combusting. As recently as May of 2005 Ford announced a recall of 155,700 Crown Victoria sedans used as police cars and taxi cabs because of a fire risk. In these 2003-2005 models fires broke out when a sound insulator under the dash slipped and overheated. A few reports of fires have already been filed throughout the United States and Canada.

The long and short of it is that if you or somebody you love owns a Ford in any of these models or years, you should take it to a mechanic immediately. See a lawyer about covering the costs of such an appointment. Park your Ford on the street. If you have been injured or any of your property damaged by these dangerous exploding trucks, see a lawyer immediately. Defective product claims have a limited time period for filing and the more people who come together to prosecute these dangerous vehicles, the quicker Ford will be to accept responsibility for damages and pull the affected vehicles off our roads.

When Ford decided to redesign the Mustang, they opted to incorporate a retro look, much like what was done previously with the Thunderbird. Fortunately, Ford didnt look at the ghastly Mustang II series from the 1970s for a template, instead the US automaker drew upon the second generation Mustangs of the late 1960s for their inspiration. Lets just say that the redesigned Mustang has been nothing short of a sell out hit.

Introduced as a 2005 model, the retro Mustang for 2006 offers only one change: the introduction of a Pony package which is meant to give the car a GT look and feel. Borrowing from the fastback design of the late 1960s, the 2005 model was such a hit that Ford could not keep up with production.

Buyers have a choice between a 4.0L V6 and a 4.6L V8 engine to power the car. With 2+2 seating, 107 inch wheelbase, and a curb weight of just under 3500 pounds, the car cruises down the highway with 210 and 300 horses respectively.

Each engine is mated with a 5 speed manual transmission and a 5 speed automatic transmission is optional for both. 4 wheel disc brakes and optional traction control [standard with the V8 help keep the Mustang under control.

Production for 2006 is certain to be tight and with little incentives available they certainly arent needed the Mustang is likely to continue to have a long waiting list of customers desiring the sporty coupe. Considering that sales across the Ford division are flat, this is good news for an automaker desperately needing a hot seller.

Everybody knows that one of the requirements of driving in city streets is passing the emission smog test. We do this so as not to pollute and conserve fuel. However, drivers have nightmares regarding the cost involved in passing such test. When this problem occurs, our vehicle must be either brought to a garage or you can try to fix it yourself. The first one is not a problem if you have money set aside for this situation but what happen if you decide to do this yourself? How do you begin? What tools do you need? Where do you get the info to fix this problem?

Fixing your own vehicle is a scary situation but if youbring your vehicle to a shop, here are what you are upagainst: (1). Cost of scanning for codes including one hourdiagnosis to find the problem. $100-$150 (depends on thetype of vehicle). (2).another $100 per hour as soon as the mechanic starts working on your vehicle. The final cost can easily run you from $300-$800 just to fix just one problem. And assuming the mechanic finds another code or sensor that can cause another smog failure, which will be extra.

So why not try to do it yourself? An example is shown below on how a smart driver will fix his own smog problem using the check engine light from the dash panel: My 2001 Ford F150 Pick up truck has flunked the smog test and has this code P0402: EGR flow high; it is now stored on my engine computer. I tried fixing this myself and when I checked vacuum to the egr valve port at idle, the engine stopped which confirms to me that the egr valve is OK. This sensor appears like a small box with 2 ports coming from the exhaust.Sensor is located between the valve cover and throttle body withtubes running from it. This sensor calculates the exhaustback pressure when the egr valve is activated. The passages or tubes for this sensor can get broken and will trip the code but there are lots of failures on the sensor itself. Also, if the tube is blocked with carbon and restrict the flow; the code can be set too. To check, measure the signal voltage of the sensor as shown in the wiring diagram. Max reading should not exceed 0.9 volt or it means the sensor is defective.

As my subscriber, his initial expenses are: cost of getting the code which is free and the vacuum pump is about $20. The final fix for this was the replacement of DPFE sensor. A digital voltmeter was also used which can be bought for around $50-$100. If you add the cost of other common hand tools, he might end up spending the same amount of money if he brought it to a garage. Hyundai is fast taking over the American automotive landscape. They originally targeted GM and Ford, but now have Honda, Toyota and even luxury automotive names like Lexus and Acura in their sites. Ford has tried to keep up by purchasing Jaguar and reinventing the classic GT40, but it cannot keep up as these are small profit areas and Fords bread and butter was its Taurus in the 80s and early 90s. It lost this market share to Honda and Toyota in the 90s. Ford is trying to reinvent itself and find a new profitable niche, but it appears that the time for its demise is soon approaching.

Ford Motor Co. announced just this last week that it was going to cut another 30,000 or so workers, shut down several plants and cut production by over 20 percent. That is not a good sign. They even announced that they will be giving some dealers the boot. That is an even worse indicator. A cardinal rule of business according to the Harvard Business Review is that you never cut your sales force except to replace them with a more effective sales force. Else all you will do is reduce your sales. While Ford is closing down and circling its wagons, Hyundai is opening more dealers and rewarding and paying its sales staff better than ever.

If you have a good sales staff or organization and you reward them properly they can sell anything to anybody. Look, when Hyundai started selling in America, people were leary, there were new upstarts Kia and Daewoo was going down the drain. People did not trust or even want to consider Hyundai. Even with great incentives and a longer warranty they were not selling well. Then Hyundai revamped things and focused solely on its sales. According to Hyundai Motor America (HMA) President and CEO, Ok Suk (Owen) Koh:

We knew that our sales would make us or break us so we made that our number one issue. We took every thing positive that was being done in the entire industry and brought it all together at Hyundai. From innovation and new technology like Toyota to owner loyalty like Lexus. We knew that if we did this and kept sales as our top priority that we would come out on top.

Basically, Hyundai is gunning for top sales in America and worldwide and companies that cannot keep up, like Ford, are destined to fall unless they take drastic steps or measures.

Instead of cutting its production and, more importantly, its sales staff and dealerships, Ford should focus on fixing the problem. By cutting back you will only make it worse. What Ford needs to do is rekindle itself with the younger generation. It has tried and failed miserably. Expensive ads on American Idol didnt work, reinventing the mustang has not yielded the results that were expected. It is time to get help. What Ford needs is a new leader. One that could easily revamp their product line and reputation and bring them back from the brink. Lee Iacocca, was the wonder boy of Chrysler. He brought them out of the same identical financial hole. Bill Ford is not and will not ever be capable of this. This is true in most mega rich and entrepreneurial families, the kids will never attain 1 millionth of the accomplishments of their fathers. They dont have the ability or the drive. It isnt in them. It isnt something you are born with, its something you learn through experience. What Ford desperately needs is Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs has become one of the greatest success stories of all time. In the 70s and 80s he created Apple Computer and dominated the personal computer market. In the 90s he came back and brought Apple back from the brink and then he created and dominated the personal music player industry with the iPod. He also created Pixar animation studios and has dominated that area. Steve Jobs has the uncanny ability to take companies in entirely different fields and make them super successful. Ford and the automotive industry would be a cake walk for him. So, Ford, here is a bonafide guaranteed solution to your problems. Get rid of Mr. Ford and do whatever it takes to get Steve Jobs on board. You will then be able to open plants, increase the number of dealers, and increase jobs. For the last two decades, the Ford Taurus has served as the bread and butter car for the Ford car line up. In its early years, the Taurus ranked as the number one selling car in America. All the car blogs lately have been speculating on the direction that the Ford Motor Company is going to take in the wake of declining sales and stiff competition. We know that Ford has too much capacity and we know that the company will be closing some key plants and laying off an as yet to be determined number of employees. What hadnt been clear is which models would be cut from the line up. Now, it appears that Ford will exit the lucrative minivan market. Thats right, Ford apparently will stick with building cars, trucks, and SUVs, and leave the minivan market to the other players.

Ever since the Chrysler Corporation invented the minivan market back in the early 1980s with its line of K-car derived minivans the Dodge Caravan, Plymouth Voyager, and the Chrysler Town & Country Ford has been playing catch up. Indeed, a series of forgettable star named minivans were served up by Ford and summarily rejected by consumers: the Aerostar, Windstar, and the Freestar. Later, both Honda and Toyota brought out their own entries and Ford, along with Chevrolet found themselves trailing badly in an overcrowded segment. Indeed, several GM divisions sell minivans, as does Kia and Nissan, making the market especially tight.

Should Ford decide to go ahead with plans to ditch the minivan market, it wouldnt be a complete retreat. For one, many consumers prefer the automakers popular Ford Explorer SUV while its all wheel drive Freestyle wagon/crossover competes well too. Finally, another vehicle the Edge will soon make its debut and likely pull many minivan customers over. The Edge will be yet another crossover vehicle somewhat of a SUV/wagon hybrid and fill the need for consumers.

Yes, Ford appears ready to ditch the minivan market. No loss to consumers and probably a smart move for the beleaguered automaker.

Back in 2000, the year that the Ford Focus was introduced, Ford Motor Company was hoping that the model would be well received and exceed the sales totals of its previous small car, the Escort. Unfortunately, the new Focus was plagued by various minor quality problems and the car soon became the joke of the industry. Step forward to 2006, and the current Focus is vastly improved on earlier models. Lets explore what is helping the Focus become a proven challenger in the crowded small vehicle sector:

1. Aggressive Price. Yes, the number of cars available under US$15,000 continues to drop each year. However, the Focus takes it one step further as it retails just below $14,000. Comparably equipped Chevys, Kias and Hyundais sell for nearly the same amount, so the consumer has a good choice when buying the Ford Focus.

2. Sufficient Power. The 2.0L I4 engine paired to a five speed manual transmission gives the car enough power to get it moving and keep it moving at a nice clip on the freeway. Competing models offer smaller engines as small as 1.6L as found in the Kia Rio.

3. Spacious Interior. Up to five people can be carried in the Focus and the interior room is large for a car in its segment. Most small cars are intolerable for big rear seating passengers, but not so for the Focus. Compare the Focus seating to the Cobalt and the Focus is the clear winner.

The Corolla remains the favorite amongst industry specialists, but the Focus has certainly shed its low quality status with the current model. In 2000, the year that the Focus was introduced, Ford Motor Company had high hopes for the car that was created to replace the popular, but aging Escort. Instead, numerous minor quality problems plagued the vehicle and it soon became the butt of jokes throughout the industry. Step forward to 2005, and the current year model is a nice departure from earlier years. The 2005 Ford Focus has improved as it has aged; lets examine what is helping the car to be a proven competitor in the crowded small vehicle segment:

1. Competitive Price. Yes, the number of cars available under $20,000 continues to drop each year. The Focus takes it one step further as it retails just below $15,000 when rebates and incentives kick in. Lesser quality Kias and Hyundais sell for nearly the same amount, so the consumer has a good chance to purchase something that will actually last in the Ford Focus.

2. A Variety of Body Styles. Most cars built today come in only one or two body styles. The Focus features four: a three-door ZX3 hatchback, a five-door ZX5 hatchback, a ZX4 sedan and a ZXW wagon.

3. Roomy Interior. Up to five people can be carried in the Focus and the interior room is spacious for a car of its class. Most small cars are unbearable for tall rear seating passengers, not so for the Focus.

It is not a secret anymore. The Ford Motor Company is currently suffering from financial blows. The company that used to be part of the US automotive industry?s Big Three is now on its knees and is now trying to get up and recover from the wounds that it has received.

Experts in the industry do say that this is not all about the products ? from Ford vehicles like the Ford Focus and the Ford F150 pick up truck to other Ford products like Ford Granada parts and the like ? that the Ford Motor Company offers. These experts suggest that the problems that Ford is currently experiencing are probably all part of a mismanagement of the company. They also do agree that the company now offers lots of products in the market which are no longer quite as hot and as popular as they used to be.

To answer such a problem, the company has now come up with what they call the Accelerated Ford Way Forward plan. This would be the company?s battle plan and it would be their way of making sure that the company does totally go downhill and become just a memory in the auto industry.

According to the Ford Motor Company?s Accelerated Ford Way Forward plan, the company is actually planning on cutting down the number of salaried workers that they have. Sources say that the company might be cutting down at least a third of the whole number of workers that the company currently employs. Plus, the company says that they would be offering what they call buyout packages to all of the company?s 75,000 hourly employees for their Ford and Automotive Components Holdings arm.

In previous years, the company says that they would be decreasing the number of employees that they have come the year 2012. However, with the crisis hanging quite seriously over the company?s head, the head honchos have now come to an agreement that the company would rather be able to finish such a giant amount of decrease of employees just by the year 2008.

The Amazing Corvette Z06

Auto enthusiasts all over the United States are cheering on the latest 2007 version of the Corvette Z06. With tremors of change going through the US auto industry as of late, the Corvette still enjoys brisk sales and a loyal vehicle following for the once mighty GM.

The Z06 version of the Vette actually saw its debut in the 1960's but the modern, and still running, version was born in 2001 to replace the ZR1. The new, modern version of the Z06 now boasts being the most powerful and fastest production Corvette to ever come off the assembly line at Chevrolet.

Starting in 2002 the Z06 produced a whopping 405 hp, propelling itself from a standing start to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The newest 2007 version of the Z06 with its 427 cubic inch powerplant produces a neck snapping 505 hp that decreases the 0-60 time to 3.5 seconds and increases the top speed to 198 mph.

The C6 or sixth generation of the Vette came to production in 2005 as a shorter, sleeker version of its C5 predecessor. The smaller styling of the latest Vette was partly because of complaints of the vehicle being too wide and to also get the attention of European sports car enthusiasts in an attempt to draw them away from models like the Porsche.

My personal opinion on the styling is that the C6 looks too much like a budget sports car compared to the muscular and definitive styling of the previous C5 version. The appearance of the C6 is that of a beautiful and sleek machine with the trunk chopped off. The body profile doesn't quite make the statement it once did as a true American sports car. However, the performance of the C6 Z06 more than makes up for the lack of styling and it still looks great from the front 3/4 view.

The base price of $70,000 (try getting one for that price) is expensive for most car buyers for sure, but it is a true bargain in its class. With its 0 to 60 times, top speed and overall performance, it is a breath of fresh air in a class of automobiles costing nearly twice its price. Comparatively the Ford GT and the Dodge Viper SRT-10 both have suggested starting retail prices above $140,000, exactly twice that of the Corvette Z06.

One of the most amazing things about this beauty of a sports car is that it is the first 500 plus horse power production vehicle to avoid the ridiculous US Government mandated gas guzzler tax. It does this by being a moderately fuel efficient vehicle and weighing at 18 miles in the city and 28 miles on the highway for the manual transmission model. That's better than my 2005 Toyota 4Runner that takes more than twice as long to get from 0-60.

As you can see, there are many reasons for the car enthusiast to love the new Corvette Z06. Its performance, price, styling (to some) and fuel economy make it a well rounded world class sports car. And I have to mention it again, you just can't beat the price!

A Brief History About The Original Jeep

While the Jeep is famous in its history of serving the US military there is some misunderstanding concerning who created the original Jeep. Many incorrectly attribute the development of the first Jeep to Willys. The true inspiration of the first Jeep design came from a small and relatively unknown company by the name of the American Bantam Car Company based in Butler, PA.

The American Bantam Car Company was first established as a subsidiary of the Austin Car Company, a British car manufacturer, and was originally called American Austin Car Company. Austin made a small and economical car called the Austin Seven, which was very popular in England. Unfortunately for the Austin Car Company, the Austin Seven never saw popularity here in the states and the American Austin Car Company nearly went bankrupt. It was eventually taken over by its Chairman who changed its name to the American Bantam Car Company (Bantam). Bantam took the original Austin Seven design and made a number of improvements. It was a slightly bigger version than its British cousin and was capable of longer drives.

The Bantam folks were pioneers and saw a need for a light military vehicle. They provided a few of their autos to the National Guard in an effort to sell the military on the use of such vehicles. The military finally realized a need for a light mobile vehicle and finally agreed to discuss a design with Banatm in 1940. The outcome of this meeting was a proposed military 4X4 hybrid that was to weigh less than 1300 pounds. In 1941 Bantam developed a Bantam Reconnaissance Car in response to the U.S. Army?s request for an all-purpose military vehicle. This vehicle ultimately became the prototype of the Jeep, which was later manufactured by Willys (Willys MB) and Ford (GPW).

The US military was concerned about Bantam?s ability to produce the necessary amount of vehicles and because of this they decided to offer other manufacturers the opportunity to produce the vehicle. The requirement was to design a vehicle and with the approval of the US military, the manufacturer was then to build and deliver a prototype within 49 days. With the military?s approval of the prototype, an additional 70 working rigs were to be delivered in 75 days. The required weight limit caused many manufacturers to turn away from the project with only Bantam and Willys participating initially, and Ford joining in later.

Bantam?s drawings were the closest to the military?s requirements even though their design had problems with the weight restrictions. The company completed their design and built and delivered the prototype on schedule. The military having tested the vehicle to its fullest was satisfied with the design and performance, and commissioned the additional 70 vehicles to be built. This is where the Military began to be concerned about Bantam?s ability to produce enough vehicles. The company was fairly small and had a limited capacity. What the military did was to grant Willys and Ford access to the trials of the Bantam prototype and to their actual designs, even though Willys failed to submit a prototype on time and Ford showed little interest in the endeavor up to that point in time. Both Ford and Willys were allowed to submit prototypes, the Quad (Willys) and the Pygmy (Ford), well outside the specified time frame and well above the required weight limit. Both the Ford and Willys versions ?borrowed? quite a bit from Bantam?s design.

The Bantam vehicle, Bantam GPV (General Purpose Vehicle), was delivered on time, met the majority of the specifications, and performed well in the tests. By all accounts Bantam should have been awarded the contract, and there was a large controversy over how the contract was handled. The military, unfortunately for Bantam, identified strengths and weaknesses of each vehicle. The Bantam was to high off the ground and was underpowered, while the Quad was well over the weight limit but had a more powerful engine, and the Pygmy was underpowered and had suspect steering components but handled best of the three vehicles. The military still concerned about the capability of two of the companies, Bantam and Willys, decided to place an order for 1500 vehicles with each company producing 500, as long as they met the original specifications with the only change being an increase in the weight limit to a little over 2200 pounds.

All three companies took the best ideas from each other and from Bantam?s original production design to further develop their vehicles causing the 3 vehicles to be extremely similar. In mid 1941 the military decided that the 1500 vehicles should be of a standardized design and not three different types. They ultimately chose the Willys design due to its lower cost, and that version was adopted as the standard army vehicle. Willys went on to secure the contract to provide the next 16,000 Willys. This contract award called for a series of alterations to the design, which lead to the classic standard Jeep design.

Bantam continued to produce its production version, known, as the Bantam 40 BRC, but the US Army did not want it because it was non-standard. The already produced vehicles and the new production units were forwarded to the Russian and British armies. It is very interesting to note that after watching the testing trials the Russian military actually chose the Bantam over the Willys? and Ford?s units. The eventual Willys? design closely resembles the 40 BRC.

In the winter of 1941 the army wanted to develop a second source for the vehicle because Willys couldn?t keep up with production requirements and a wanted a safeguard against the possible sabotage at the one production facility. In November the US Army awarded Ford to build 15,000 jeeps to the Willys design and drawing. The Willys MB and the Ford GPW vary in minor details only as the military required that the parts be interchangeable. The GPW in the Ford model?s name was reference to G for government vehicle, P referred to its wheel base size, and the W was for designating that it had a Willys? engine. The one change Ford made, which was adopted by the military as standard design, was the now all-familiar grill. With Ford now producing the jeep along with Willys, the military was able to provide the jeeps to its allies and production of the Bantam 40 BRC was discontinued.

Combined production of the Willys MB and Ford GPW during WW II was over 500,000. A total of 2,675 of the Bantam 40 BRCs were built. The company reportedly never produced vehicles again. The US military awarded Bantam contracts to build trailers as a way to make it up to them for not receiving the jeep contract.

So, who created the original jeep? Well historically this has seen a bit of controversy going back as far as 1943 when the Fair Trade Commission ultimately charged Willys with false and misleading advertising claims stating that Willys had created the Jeep. The court determined that the Jeep was fostered and conceived in Butler, PA, by the American Bantam Car Company. The primary designer who worked on the Jeep project for Bantam was Karl Probst, and, now you know who really created the first Jeep!

Battle of the Trucks: Who's Gonna Win the Fight?

Will Ford retain its supremacy in the truck segment despite the potent rivals behind it? So far, F-150, which belongs to the powerful F-Series, is Ford's best-selling truck. It is enjoying its reign for more than 2 decades now. In fact, now that the automaker's cars are not selling well, F-150 is deemed the bread-and-butter of the company.

The automaker is constantly upgrading Ford F-150 truck parts to further improve the vehicle's performance and charisma. However, other truck competitors are eyeing on F-150 to come up with something better. This has started the ongoing battle of the trucks.

Toyota released its Tundra and Chevrolet freed its Silverado. Are these trucks powerful enough to topple Ford's pride?

General Motors Corp. Vice Chairman Robert Lutz said Toyota's redesigned Tundra pickup, hitting showrooms in February, is likely to be a strong seller, but GM doesn't anticipate to cede much market share to the Asian automaker. They'll do well, Lutz added. However, he doesn't think that Tundra will get much from GM's full-size truck sales. The latter sells approximately 1 million units annually.

One serious threat to Ford's reign is Toyota Tundra. The full-size pickup truck from Toyota, introduced at the Chicago Auto Show for 2007, is a larger truck with striking towing capacity. It is given state-of-the-art Toyota Tundra high performance parts to boost its capabilities.

Toyota will soon open in San Antonio a 2.2-million-square-foot manufacturing facility plant worth $850 million. Said plant is the new haven for the manufacture and assembly of bigger Tundra.

The customers will decide. I do know that we have done a sensational job of listening to our customers, said GM sales chief, Mark LaNeve. Subsequently, Denise Morrissey, Toyota's spokesperson agreed that the market will decide however; she added that Toyota is expecting to sell 200,000 Tundras next year. Said estimate is up from about 126,000 in 2005. Through October, Toyota has sold approximately 100,000 Tundras.

We've been competing with Ford, GM and Dodge for 50 years. We know the full-size market is very loyal and smart. Once they get familiar with the Tundra, get to know it, I think they will consider it. Loyalty is definitely key in this market, but it will only get you so far, Morrissey noted.

However, according to David Healy, an auto analyst with Burnham Securities, Toyota is not going to get a lot of the good ol' boys out of the Silverados and F-150s. The idea is mostly these are going to be sold to people who already own Toyotas and are looking to upgrade into that area.

Duramax vs. Cummins seems to be the question on everybody?s mind. Let?s be honest Duramax vs. Cummins, has never been the real question, neither has Duramax vs. Powerstroke or Cummins vs. Powerstroke in any of these debates. For the most reasonable answer to these questions that I have found I look back to the teachings of a wise professor. A Philosophy teacher I once had was discussing what he had found to be the main causes of homosexuality after years of being a counselor for school districts and at the local prison, he said that they were genetics, environmental and hormonal. Might I be so bold as to say that it really doesn?t matter who makes the truck or how durable the components are in the truck are but the real answer to the question Duramax vs. Cummins or Powerstroke vs. Cummins or Duramax vs. Powerstroke is what did your father drive (genetic) where did you grow up, what did the people around you growing up drive, what do your current friends drive (environmental), and what body style really ?does it? for you (hormonal).

Another factor into this question that my professor went over was the fact that men are attracted to form rather intellect, so just as some men are attracted to women that chew (Powerstroke Owners) men will be attracted to different trucks based on how they look to them. Another factor that I think can fall in line with this is how does the truck make the man look to the ladies? Have you ever noticed how when you are in a parking lot and you see a huge Power Stroke pull into the parking lot with a 12 inch lift and 35 inch Super Swamper Boggers on it and then it will park and out pops the 4?5? driver in his wranglers and a belt buckle that is almost as tall as him. Then you catch a glimpse inside the cab of the truck just before he closed the door and you can see the seat up as far as it can go and sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes I swear I see a stack of phone books. I don?t know what it is but it is the strangest phenomenon, I think that factors into the whole form thing as well, the fact that the men need to feel secure about themselves, maybe they missed the memo that the new Jeep Liberty?s have a nice little diesel in them as well, and they wouldn?t need a ladder to pull themselves up into it.

Now I hope you don?t think that this is it and that I am going to leave you hanging. You know I would never do that my friends. I will be back soon enough with some factual base and research that has been done over the past several years I will include dyno results for max horsepower, shop transcripts for history of what make had which problems etc.. But for now stick with my theory of the three degrees of Trucksuality.

Sometimes automakers really do listen to consumers. In the case of Ford, particularly with its crowd pleasing F-150 pick-up truck, Ford not only is listening, but delivering. What am I talking about? A hot-rod pick-up truck, that?s what. That?s right, Ford is going ahead with plans to market a truly ?boss? version of its perennially best selling truck, the F-150, to give many fans just what they have wanted. Read on for a sneak preview of Ford?s soon to be released FX2, a dream-come-true for avid Ford lovers.

With gas prices approaching record levels, some are questioning Ford?s decision to release yet another version of its highly popular full sized pick-up truck, the F-150. Yet, demand for big trucks and SUVs continues to remain strong suggesting that size really does matter for many consumers. True, a smaller truck can be adequate for some motorists however most contractors require the large carrying capacity of the F-150 thus the continued high demand of these types of trucks. Plus, serious pick-up truck drivers will tell you that there is nothing that matches the abundant capacity of an eight foot bed in carrying everything from lumber to yard debris to sport gear and more.

As it is with many truck owners, function is one thing while styling is but another. Engine choices haven?t been announced, but Ford has said that its popular 5.4L V8 will be offered. The FX2, a two wheel drive vehicle, will complement an existing off road model, the FX4. Ford builds more versions of its full sized pick up truck than any other manufacturer in the world.

Yes, the FX2 is another part of Ford?s ?Bold Moves? promotional campaign. While the new model is based on an existing truck, it does something that Ford is finally learning to do right: listen to its consumers. With the 2007 F-150 FX2, it appears that Ford has responded with certainty.

These teams would be using SolidWorks software to get to such a goal. This event would be taking places this summer.

SolidWorks is a registered trademark of SolidWorks Corporation. The corporation is actually a company that is holds goals like developing and marketing new software that could be used to design, analyze, and manage product data. In fact, this company is well known as the leading supplier of 3D CAD technology as well as other types of software that has been very helpful to teams set out on designing great products.

The event would be known as the Vehicle Design Summit and this is the very first of its kind. It has already started last 13th of this month and it would be ending on the 13th of August this year. The teams of engineering students would be thinking up of new ways to operate a fleet of innovative vehicles which would be using non-carbon hybrid technologies. In fact, as part of their production, they would also have to design such an operation as well as implement their creations. Their fleet of vehicles would be using human power, biofuels, fuel cells and solar power among many others.

The best-selling car in America returns with an original engine design and a blue-collar transmission from the motor city. Ford's F-150 pickup comes in regular, extended, and crew-cab styles. All cabs have four doors. The standard minicab mimics the SuperCab extended minicab with average rear-hinged partly doors. The SuperCrew crew minicab has four straight doors. Extended's and crews have a bring up work surface seat for 6-passenger capacity. Crews have a 5.5-ft-long consignment single bed. Other F-150s use beds of 5.5, 6.5, and 8 ft, depending on options. All come in flat-side Styleside outward appearance; the 6.5-ft single bed in addition comes as a flare-fender Flareside.

So my friend and I are somewhat into car audio/visual (it's a lot of fun) and decided to change out my stock Ford radio for an aftermarket one.

We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into until we got out the old deck. The 'ol junker (well not really a junker, since it's an EATC temperature control module coupled with a CD player) was one big circuit board. This thing looked so out-of-date that man could have went to the moon with it (produced in 1974).

We got the deck out, bought an aftermarket dash kit from the local car audio dealer, and connected the new deck. THAT part was easy - but wiring the EATC back up (electronic automatic temperature control) was worse then sticking yourself in the eye with a hot poker.

Here's a tip to anyone who wants to replace their stock car radios - NEVER cut the wiring harnesses. That being said, finding another wiring harness for the beast that actually works has been almost impossible. None of the wiring diagrams off any website were of merit - and Ford has none themselves that could be of help to us.

On top of that, the aftermarket dash kit we bought didn't have any knobs - they expected us to supply ones from the last heating system - and nothing to plug the knobs into. We could order the knobs - $12 each - order the switches - etc. The wiring harness was $80, the switches were around $100 for all three...so the total cost for fixing this heating system would be getting close to $500 when you incorporate the cost of the aftermarket dash kit as well.

I don't think I'll ever replace the stock radio in a Ford again. At least if I do, it would have to be a model that Ford RECOGNIZES and actually has help regarding the model. Buying replacement parts at Canadian Tire just dosen't cut it - they never work or fit - and when a Ford dealership can barely help you, you really wonder who can.

Long story short - with winter fast approaching we fused two wires together to turn the heat on for the winter. Simple solution. Likely when summer rolls around, we'll fuse a couple together to turn on the AC.

Only thing that bothers me is I can't turn the heat up or down. But it's on - so scrue it.
